All India Jat Mahasabha President - Captain Amarinder Singh

Former Punjab Congress Committee president, Captain Amarinder Singh has now vowed to work for the betterment of the jat community as on Sunday he was unanimously appointed as the national president of All India Jat Mahasabha by leaders from 12 states who had gathered in Shimla. After his election, Amarinder said his priority would be to remove social evils like female feticide and dowry system prevailing in the community, besides ensuring reservation for jats under OBC category.

His emergence as the new jat leader has left many surprised. On being questioned about his association with the community, he said that Jat Mahasabha leaders had approached him few days back and he accepted their decision of leading them. "My association with Jat Mahasaba dates back to 1982 and I was the patron of the association," he added. Jat leaders from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand passed a resolution for the unanimous election of Captain Amarinder Singh as their new national president. Moving the resolution, secretary general of the mahasabha, Yudhvir Singh, said, "Captain Amarinder Singh is one of the few icons of the community known across the country as well as internationally."
